Gowran - Hurlers hope to bounce back

HURLERS ATTEMPT TO BOUNCE BACK TO WINNING WAYS - Following the disappointment of their opening round defeat to Mooncoin last Saturday week in the opening round of the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League, Young Irelands of Gowran will be attempting to make amends against neighbours Thomastown this coming weekend.

Clara - Win by a goal

GAA NEWS - Clara Juniors played Saturday night in the last round of the All County league and came away from the game with a great win, beating Kilmacow 2-9 to 1-9. From the start Kilmacow looked the stronger going into a 1-3 to no score lead but with Killian Phelan getting the first score for Clara the tables started to turn. Brian Prendergast followed Killians point with 2 pointed frees. Kilmacow got 2 more points before Ben Nolan struck for a goal and Conor Phelan continued the scoring with a point. Kilmacow got another point before the half time whistle sounded leaving the score Clara 1-4 Kilmacow 1-6.

Durrow - Lotto still to be won

Lotto - The parish lotto with a jackpot and of 7,250 euro was not won, small winners were 30 euro Killian, Mickey and Saoirse c/o Fawltys, 25 euro Ellen Kenna, 20 euro Ester O Regan . The lotto will be in the Mark Lennon’s Bar, on May 13 with a possible jackpot of 7,550 euro. Tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.

Muckalee - St. Martin’s beat Blacks and Whites

Hurling - St. Martin’s played Blacks and White’s this evening in Coon in the All County Junior League. Blacks and Whites were first off the mark scoring 4 points before Brian Mulhall put St. Martin’s on the score board with a well taken point in the 12th minute.

Danesfort - Fort Under 14s in final

Soccer - Fort Rangers Under-11s go through to the quarter final of cup after a cracking game against Stonyford Utd on Friday evening.The game went to extra time after it finished 1-1 in normal time  but Fort scored twice in added time to progress to next round.Panel-Conor Farrell, Tadhg O Sullivan, Ger Coffey, Kevin Ging, Shaun O Keefe, Aidan O Neill,Ben O Sullivan.Daniel O Grady,Jack Walton,Darragh Walsh,Eoin Delahunty (goal),Andy O Hickey (goal),Michael Molloy (goal).

Bennettsbridge - Local SVP at 200 year celebrations

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CELEBRATION -Bennettsbridge St Vincent De Paul Society was represented at the 200 year celebration of the foundation of St Vincent De Paul by Blessed Frederic Ozanam. The event was held in The Convention Centre, Dublin last Saturday week and members from all over the country attended. Guests were welcomed by President Michael D. Higgins who gave an inspiring speech. The programme of events continued with an item on Frederic Ozanam by Sr Claire Sweeney DC entitled, “A Prophetic Voice for Our challenging Times”

Bennettsbridge - Two gold medals for Gerri

WELL DONE GERRI! - Gerri Kinsella has been making a name for herself in swimming circles and she continued her winning ways with two gold medals and a silver in the second round of the Special Olympics Regional Games held in The Curragh. Gerri won gold in 50 metres freestyle, Silver in 50 metres Backstroke and Gold in the Relay 4 x 50. Gerri is a member of the Kilkenny Special Olympics Club and is a daughter of Sheila and John Kinsella.

DUCHAS HERITAGE SOCIETY - Dr Walter Walsh Memorial Lecture - Dúchas - A lecture will be delivered by Rex Bangerter in Tullaherin on Wednesday 17 April at 8 p.m. on the subject of Recent Archaeological Excavations at Newtown-Jerpoint. This is the inaugural lecture in memory of our late colleague Dr Walter Walsh, Stoneen, and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
Dúchas Annual Collection: The annual Dúchas Church-gate Collection takes place in Bennettsbridge and Tullaherin on Saturday and Sunday 20 & 21 April. Your support would be much appreciated.
