The Gowran panto for 2012 has finally arrived, with shows kicking off tonight (Wednesday).

Pinocchio is this year’s magical tale, with performances taking place tonight, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and finishing off with a matinee on Sunday at 3pm.

This classic Carlo Collodi tale tells the story of the old toymaker Gepetto, who has always dreamed of having a child of his own. And so, one day, his wish comes true when, thanks to the Blue Fairy, his puppet Pinocchio comes to life.

Yet the wooden puppet must prove himself brave, truthful and unselfish if one day he is to become a real boy – which is easier said than done with the attentions of a devious Fox and his tricky sidekick Cat focused on the valuable stringless puppet. It’s up to the loveable Jiminy Cricket to try keep Pinocchio on the straight and narrow.

The show runs in Gowran Parish Hall today (Wednesday), Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets cost €12 for adults, €8 for children, and €10 for OAPs and students, and can be booked by calling Eileen on 056 7726117.
