Ms Michelle Harrahill shares the excitement of the Heineken Cup visit with some third year students

There was great excitement in Coláiste Mhuire last week when Mr Pat Curran, well known rugby referee and member of the National Executive brought the Heineken Cup on a visit to the school.

Few sporting trophies are as instantly recognisable as the iconic Heineken Cup, which weighs in at an impressive 11.5 pounds and is emblazoned with a map of Europe representing the participating countries.

Mr Curran spoke of the spectacular manner in which Leinster came to win the trophy in May of last year, coming back from 22-6 down to Northampton at the break to winning 33 -22 at full time, thus producing one of the most remarkable and inspiring turnarounds in the game’s history.

As the Cup was passed around among the staff and students, Mr Curran pointed out that the purpose of the visit was not just to promote rugby, but all sports, and all who had the privilege of holding the Cup on that day certainly felt that they were sharing in a little bit of history.
