‘A Wake’ in the north

The Kilquan Players are taking to the stage in Coon Hall this Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 8pm.

As they mark 20 years in existence, the group is presenting Michael J. Ginnelly’s A Wake in the West.

The story centres on the death and wake of Tom Healy (Michael Tunstead), a man whose fondness for alcohol is renowned. Not content with drinking himself to death, Tom makes a last request to be buried in the drink (at sea). This creates havoc in his house and in his local community, with some believing he is not entitled to “take it all with him”.

With direction by Michael Casey, the cast includes Mike Tunstead, Frances Sweeney, Maggie Cooney, Maria Purcell, Tom Brennan, Anne Tunstead, Sabrina Brennan, Gordon Watchorn and Michael Somers.

Admission is €10 and part of the proceeds will go towards local charities and groups.
