A weekend of Duiske Abbey concerts
Na Casaidigh will perform in Graignamanagh on November 4 as part of the 2011 Duiske Concerts.
Performances by Na Casaidigh (The Cassidys), Sophie Cashell, Cara O’Sullivan and Anthony Kearns are on the bill as the Duiske Concerts come to Graignamanagh’s Duiske Abbey from November 4-6.
Na Casaidigh’s concert on November 4 at 8pm will be recorded for as part of a documentary for TG4. The programme, which will be broadcast at Christmas, follows a year in the group’s life with concerts and sessions around Ireland.
Na Casaidigh first came to prominence after a performance for US President Ronald Reagan in Dublin Castle in 1984 and performed for US President Bill Clinton on his State visit to Ireland. The group has toured extensively in the US, playing in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. A highlight of their European tours was a televised performance for Pope John Paul II on the steps of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome to celebrate the Year of the Family. Tickets to their Duiske concert are €20/€15.
November 5 at 2pm will then see pianist Sophie Cashell take to the Duiske Abbey stage.
Sophie came to national attention after winning the BBC Television Classical Star Competition in 2007. For her prize, she recorded her first CD, Debut, on Universal Classics and Jazz label featuring works by Chopin, Liszt, Ravel and Debussy.
Since then she has concentrated on finishing her studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music, where she graduated in the summer of 2010. She has toured France, the UK and Ireland in recital, and the 2010/11 season marked her return to Dublin’s National Concert Hall for a performance of the solo version of Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition and her debut at King’s Place with cellist Johannes Moser. Tickets to her Duiske performance are €15/€10.
The third concert, by Cara O’Sullivan and Anthony Kearns, will take place in Duiske Abbey on November 6 at 8pm.
Cork-born soprano Cara O’Sullivan’s concert career and operatic engagements have taken her all over the world. With a wide-ranging repertoire, she has been referred to as “The Irish Superstar of her generation” by The Irish Times.
Anthony Kearns is a founding member of The Irish Tenors. His opera credits include Opera Ireland’s Faust, Carmen’s Don José for Ireland’s Glasthule Opera Company and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni for Lismore Opera. He also sang the role of Fenton in an Italian production of Falstaff in Tuscany and performed lead tenor in The Irish Ring in Carnegie Hall. Tickets to their performance are €25/€20.
