Celebrating YIFM’s stars

The Young Irish Film Makers will be celebrated at an awards ceremony, the YIFMAs, on February 25.

The Oscar nominations may have just been announced recently, but this month the only show in town is the Young Irish Film Makers awards ceremony – the YIFMAs.

To be held on February 25 – the night before the 84th Academy Awards ceremony in California – the YIFMAs were set up to celebrate the work done by YIFM at its headquarters in Kilkenny and with its outreach programme.

YIFM started its outreach programme as a way of working with youth organisations, community groups and schools all over the country. It is a way for such groups to gain access to equipment and training that might not otherwise be available to them.

Anyone wanting to get involved and enter the festival can fill out an application at www.yifm.com. Submissions should include a jpeg still, a DVD copy of the film and a short synopsis of what the film is about. The deadline for applications is February 6.

For more information, contact claire@yifm.com or call 056 7764677.
