First full-scale performance by Firebird Theatre

Kilkenny’s newest theatre group is presenting its first full-scale performance in Cleere’s from February 28 to March 1.

Firebird Theatre’s production will include one-act plays The Star Trap by Michael James Ford and Deus Ex Machina by G.L. Horton, plus Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Raven.

The Star Trap is based on a short story of the same name by Bram Stoker. Set in Victorian-era London, it sees an encounter between married showgirl Loo and her lover, a flamboyant Harlequin.

The work by the Dublin-based writer was one of the first to be performed in Bewley’s Theatre. Directed by Willie Ryan, its cast include Sinead O’Sullivan and Julian Briscoe.

Deus Ex Machina, directed by George Mather, stars David Glendon, Rosie Hayes and Anne Keegan. The light-hearted comedy is the story of a writer who’s desperately trying to get his work produced, only to find that he receives a surprising response from one theatre.

The night will also feature The Raven, performed by Willie and directed by David. It’s a timely coincidence, as a film inspired by the works of the Gothic American poet is set to be released this year.

Tickets cost €10 and are available from Cleere’s on 056 7762573. Doors will open at 8pm nightly, with the show starting at 8.30pm.
