Free workshops for Kilkenny writers

Kilkenny County Council Arts Office and Library Service have announce their spring 2012 free writers’ workshops.

A six-week course in ‘Writing for theatre’ with tutor Ken Bourke will begin on February 21 from 6-8pm in Castlecomer Library. Participants will be encouraged to identify their writing objectives in terms of how, where, what and when they will write. Scripts will be explored in terms of story, character, structure, dialogue and theatre conventions. All levels of experience are welcome.

A course in creative prose, “There are two tellings to every story,” with tutor Ken Bourke will begin on February 24 from 6-8pm in Loughboy Library. The workshop will use the theme of “There are two tellings to every story” as a reference point, but where the participant goes from there is entirely up to them. All levels of experience are welcome.

‘Through the medium of poetry’ with tutor Michael Massey will begin on February 22 from 6-8pm in the City Library at John’s Quay. A place will be created where participants will feel safe and comfortable reading and sharing their writing with like-minded people with the objective of having that work improved.

The deadline for bookings is February 13, and places are limited to 12 participants per course. Participants are expected to sign up and commit to the six weeks of their chosen course. To sign up, contact the Arts Office on 056 7794138 or email niamh.finn@kilkennycoco.ie.

These free workshops are open to Kilkenny writers only.
