Gowran panto to present ‘Pinocchio’ – that’s no lie!

He’s a bit wooden. No! Not Enda Kenny.

With no strings attached. No! Not the EU/IMF bailout.

He’s a puppet and has trouble telling the truth. No! Not Eamon Gilmore.

It’s Pinocchio, of course.

And Gowran Pantomime brings this classic Carlo Collodi tale to life next week in a magical spectacle that has to be seen to be believed.

Gepetto, the old toymaker, has never had children of his own. He dreams that still one day he might. And dreams do come true.

One night he wishes on a star and, thanks to the Blue Fairy, his puppet Pinocchio comes to life.

But that’s not the half of it; the cheeky wooden puppet must prove himself brave, truthful and unselfish if one day he is to become a real boy.

Easier said than done, especially with the attentions of a devious Fox and his tricky sidekick Cat focused on the valuable stringless puppet. It’s up to the loveable Jiminy Cricket to try keep Pinocchio on the straight and narrow . But things take an unusual turn when the puppet skips school for a shot at stardom.

“Come ready to laugh, cheer, sing and shout out loud at the high-tech, high jinx, humour-infested extravaganza that is the Gowran Panto. It’s fast-paced fun for grown-ups and kids alike!” say those behind the panto magic.

“See it before the Government puts a tax on laughing.”

The show runs in Gowran Parish Hall on February 15, 17 and 18 at 8pm. There will also be a matinee show on February 19 at 3pm; tickets for this show sell out quickly so anyone planning to attend is advised to book tickets by calling Eileen on 056 7726117.

Tickets are €12 for adults, €8 for children, and €10 for OAPs and students.
