Talent unearthed in the ‘Bog of Cats’
Some quality acting talent was on display last week as Watergate Productions presented Marina Carr’s By the Bog of Cats, even if the at-times too complicated script let them down in places.
Michelle O’Flanagan will long be remembered for her passionate portrayal of lead role Hester Swane, and those in the more minor roles didn’t let her down either, from Mary Cradock as the bold and eccentric Mrs Kilbride, Colette Brown as the blind-but-seeing Catwoman and blood-dripping Fergal Miller as the Ghost of Joseph Swane.
And in Watergate Productions’ tradition of highlighting emerging talent, one of the true stars of the show was 12-year-old Rachel Leydon as Josie Kilbride. Well able to hold her own among the adult actors, she fearlessly delighted audiences with her vocal ability and her superb portrayal of Hester’s defiant yet caring daughter. She certainly is one to watch.
