Deputy Seamus Pattison, the Dáil's longest serving member, has appointed his nephew Eoin as his parliamentary secretary.
The 25-year-old is due to move to the city this week to take up his appointment.
It strengthens the belief in Labour Party circles that the young Pattison is being groomed to take his uncle's seat.
Party activists say Eoin Pattison is being put in position in advance of the next general election which must be held within the next 18 months. Up to now he has been working in Dáil Éireann with Labour finance spokeswoman Joan Burton.
His uncle Seamus is regarded as one of the most honest and hardworking members of the Dáil. The Pattisons will not have things their own way in any Labour contest and a number of candidates are likely to allow their names to go before the party faithful. They include Co Council chairman Maurice Shortall, Cllr Ann Phelan, Cllr Michael O'Brien, Cllr Tomás Breathnach and Cllr Seán "'hArgáin.
