THE Happy Valley Music and Arts Festival has announce its programme of music and arts events from May 30 to June 6, including the bank holiday weekend, in Thomastown.

Initially a music festival priding itself on debuting in Co Kilkenny, the festival programme has expanded in recent years to include art and crafts workshops and demonstrations, craft and farmers markets, exhibitions, pet shows, puppet shows and a host of free and ticketed music gigs.

Kíla will be the Saturday headliners in The Bridgebrook Beergarden but for those who don’t manage to secure a ticket for this popular night’s entertainment there will be free gigs in Murphy’s Beergarden, The Sportsman’s and Carroll’s Bar featuring everything from rock to folk to reggae.

On June 5 there will be a ‘15 acts for e15’ lineup in Murphy’s beergarden, which over the years has showcased the likes of The Republic of Loose and Delorentos in their early years and given several international acts their first Irish airings – such as Iceland’s Kimono and Scotland’s Our Lunar Activities. Last year’s festival-goers were treated to an impromtu performance by Howard Marks, who made a stop-off en route from the Cat Laughs in Kilkenny.

This year’s Happy Valley Festival music lineup includes Kila, Bipolar Empire, We Cut Corners, Ultan Conlon, Miracle Bell, Souls, The Man Whom, The Whiteliars, Bona Fide Federation, Julia and the Doogans, Deetrich, Colm Lynch, Neon Wolf, Yngve and The Innocent, The River Valley Band, Simon Fagan, Seven Summits, Stephen Buck, Tit Modern, The Freakles, Oddsocks Revival, A Dog Called Eli, Battle for 2nd Place, Simon Fagan, The Barley Mob, Band on an Island, Mallavogue, Little Black Wren, Thukolo, Thomastown Folk Choir, Scatman John, Tom Kirwan, Copper Blue, Grum and The Duende Dogs.
