KILKENNY native Sharon Callis (nee Hayes) has been named ‘Cardmaker of the Year 2011’ by a UK magazine.

The competition was run by the magazine Cardmaking and Papercraft and the result was printed in the magazine’s November 24 edition.

Despite having made cards for the past 10 years, she was reluctant to enter the worldwide competition but finally decided to after being encouraged by family members.

It was open to world wide submissions. On November 24 in Issue 99 this article will be printed. The competition is a major deal in the crafting world. Can’t believe I won.

Sharon “won first prize in the Kars (Cricut/Cuttlebug) and Tonic Studios categories and second in Beatrix Potter and Woodware, bagging herself a whopping £700 worth of craft prizes”, according to the magazine

“I haven’t stopped smiling since I found out,” she told the magazine after learning of her win. “It’s just like winning the X Factor.”

Sharon has been making cards for over 10 years, originally having worked with needle craft, and she told the magazine she would be sharing the prize with her 11-year-old daughter, Ciara, who is also a “craftaholic”.
