A round of apaws for Maria’s dog portraits

THE comedian WC Fields is credited with the famous line: “Never work with children or animals”, but Kilkenny city photographer Maria Dunphy, would disagree with that entirely. She recently won the Best Pet Portrait Portfolio Award at the Irish Professional Photographers Association 2011 National Photographic Awards.

She recently won the Best Pet Portrait Portfolio Award at the Irish Professional Photographers Association 2011 National Photographic Awards.

“ I’m delighted to be selected by my peers as the Top Irish Pet Portrait Photographer of 2011,” Maria who works from her High Srteet studio in the centre of the city said. Her portraits of Cavalier King Charles Benji, Pomeranian Rocky, Yorkshire Terrier Kelo and Basset Hound Charlie made up the winning portfolio.

“ It’s a great honour to achieve the award there were over 2000 images in the competition and the standard is extremely high,” Maria said. She also qualified into the final with her portfolios in the Children and Family sections and picked up one of the 3 Kodak Portrait Award’s presented for Child Portrait Photography.
