AUDITIONS are being held for the highly anticipated new musical The Stone based on the story of Alice Kyteler, Stone Productions and Starlight Stage Productions are delighted to announce.
The production will be a world premiere when it comes to life on the Watergate Theatre stage this October. The musical is adapted from the novel of the same name by Claire Nolan with music and lyrics by Jason Paul Ryan and Tom Bolger.
Claire Nolan’s novel has previously made headlines as there is a spooky story surrounding a painting of an American artist’s impression of what he thought Alice may look like, which was sent to Kyteler’s Inn Kilkenny (site of the original Kyteler premises).
The painting of Alice is almost identical to Alice’s biographer, the novelist Claire Nolan, although the artist painted the picture years before Claire even picked up a pen to write the story and the artist and writer had never ever heard of other or come in contact.
Now auditions are commencing over the coming weeks to find a talented female singer/actor to bring the character of Alice Kyteler to life. The audition process will take a number of weeks with the full cast hoped to be in place by end of April and rehearsals starting in May.
Stone Productions are now inviting interested actors/singers to submit their details for consideration for the following roles initially.
Alice Kyteler: A strong, determined female character with a quirky edge to her vocals – not to be a ‘pantomime witch’ by any means but she should be mysterious, poker-faced, hard and confident. A strong pop-style musical vocal ability is required: alto voice, although a unique sound would add to her ‘mystery’ (think Elphaba in Wicked). Her playing age range from is from 18-45 so a strong acting ability to develop character through the script is a must. Red/auburn hair with fair complexion would be an advantage as that the look the production company are after. The audition song is How Lucky I Was and a song of your choice.
Petronella de Meath: Alice’s maid and a very loyal servant too. She is a gentle and caring character who falls for the houseman Philip but must conceal their love from Alice. Vocal style should be a pleasant musical sounding voice (think Eponine in Les Mis). An alto range with good acting ability is required. Playing age range from 17-35. The audition song is More Than I and a song of your choice.
Male roles: The leading male roles all require some singing and acting ability. The male characters of Alice’s four husbands and The Bishop have playing ages of 25-50 years. For the audition purposes, males are asked to read from script and sing a song of their choice.
