CONTINUING its recent award sweep Trail Kilkenny, the non-profit company charged with developing leisure and tourism trails in the county, has won a prestigious excellence in marketing award.

The company, funded and supported by Kilkenny LEADER, won the Best Marketing of a Small Business Award, at the recent South East Marketing Institute Awards. Trail Kilkenny was the only Kilkenny-based firm to secure a win for the county at the awards, which recognise and reward the cream of marketing talent in the South East.

This accolade follows on from the recent Special Recognition Award bestowed on Trail Kilkenny at the JFC Innovation Awards for Rural Business.

“We’re delighted that all the hard work, effort and expertise of those involved in Trail Kilkenny has been recognized in this most recent award. The future of rural tourism in Kilkenny is closely tied to the use of our countryside for recreation and awards like this continue to highlight the excellent quality of our trail products throughout the county” said Eoin Hogan, Rural Recreation Officer, Kilkenny LEADER Partnership.

Formed three years ago, Trail Kilkenny has developed several walking trails in the county and is responsible for the expansion and redesign of the Kilkenny Craft Trail, which now includes 26 of the best craft workers in Kilkenny. Last year Trail Kilkenny launched The Taste of Kilkenny Food Trail, highlighting the best local food experiences in the County. Further themed trails based on gardens, waterways and the county’s ‘ghost’ tradition are planned. The company, supported by Kilkenny County Council, also recently launched Ireland’s first free smartphone app to guide tourists around Kilkenny city and county.
