Father and son strike Sligo double

double-There was a rare double success for the father and son duo of Tony and Danny Mullins in Sligo racetrack last Wednesday night as Battling Boru and Clarach both emerged victorious.

Battling Boru swooped late to snatch victory and land the Sean Graham Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle at odds of 8/1 running out a 2 length winner, while an hour later Clarach held off the late challenge of the Davy Russell ridden Rising Time to come out on top in a blanket finish to a closely run handicap hurdle.

Both Battling Boru and Clarach are both expected to run at the Galway festival, and indeed Clarach was successful at the Ballybrit track during the Summer festival on the 7th and final day of the week long festival last year when landing the Mares handicap hurdle.

GOLF CLASSIC-Young Irelands GAA Club will host their 20th annual golf classic on the final weekend in July on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th in Gowran Park racecourse. Teams of 4 cost €140 - €35 per person – and it’s €40 per tee box.

Commiserations- to the football team on losing the re-arranged County Junior final when they lost out to Ballyhale Shamrocks 1-10 to 1-5 last week.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION-Congratulations to all of the 36 children that made their first Holy Communion last Sunday week. A special thanks to the families of the children for attending, and also in particular the teacher’s who produced trojan work in preparing for the event.

On Sunday 10th June, all the 1st Holy Communion children and their parents are invited to a Mass of thanksgiving at 11.30am.

KILKENNY COUNTY CHILDCARE COMMITTEE-Kilkenny County Childcare Committee are holding a Free Parents Seminar for parents of children aged from Birth to 6 years on 11th June 2012 in Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel from 7pm-9.30pm. The seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Mary Roche, Education Consultant and will explore how reading books aloud can support young children’s early language development.

GOWRAN SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION-The Parents Association of Gowran National School will be holding their AGM this evening Wednesday May 30th at 7.30pm.

All parents and guardians of children in the school are invited to attend. There will be a business meeting which will include elections for the Parents Association Committee for the school year 2012/2013.
