The South East was well represented at this year’s Blog Awards Ireland. The new event celebrates the country’s bloggers.

A blogger is somebody who keeps and updates a blog, a web log, and they are many and varied. On Saturday night, 250 bloggers and their supporters turned up to the new annual awards at Osprey Hotel and Spa in Naas, County Kildare.

Over 1,400 nominations were made in 30 categories in the event which was organised by Crettyard’s Lorna Sixsmith with Amanda Webb and Beatrice Whelan. Revellers got a set meal, a live game of Angry Birds and a table dance-off, among other antics.

Unfortunately no Kilkenny blogger took home a prize, though Bennettsbridge-based Suzanna Crampton won herself a tasty hamper for being first to the stage in wellies.

Besides myself, others from this region attending, included Kilkenny man Ken McGuire whose blogs include Any Given Food, Any Given Beer and Stereotype.ie (formerly Love Arts Culture) among others. Carlovians Dee Sewell, Madeleine Forest and Ronan Hunt Murphy (the latter of Swear I’m Not Paul) were also there.

Next year’s event has been flagged for October 25 but we’ll update you once confirmations have been made. And, who knows, you’ve plenty of time to get your own blog started!
