How fitting that in the Year of the Gathering, a local outfit which heralds all that is good about Irish music and heritage is bringing out a song bearing that title.
The Kilkennys are an Irish folk and ballad group featuring the talents of Adam Cashin, Davey Cashin, Tommy Mackey and Robbie Campion.
The foursome this Friday will release their new single which celebrates the Irish culture, heritage and everything that makes us Irish. Called ‘The Gathering’, it was written while the group was on tour in Denmark last October in a bid to promote Ireland to the many thousands of people they perform to all over the world.
The song is an open invitation to people of Irish descent far and wide around the world to come and celebrate Irishness. It’s a song that promises to stick in your head, bring back memories and revitalise a sense of pride.
Which nicely complements The Gathering Ireland 2013, a series of events and festivals to celebrate Irish culture, history and genealogy. The plan is to entice people around the world to come to Ireland, explore their family roots or Irishness in general.
A series of meetings took place late last year across Kilkenny to generate ideas and there are many events in the pipeline that you’ll be able to participate in and enjoy both in Kilkenny and across the country.
