Music in the Gardens
Kilkenny Castle has the last instalment of its Music in the Gardens series this weekend. Every Sunday in July the Rose Garden has been hosting free, open air performances with an indoor option in case of bad weather. This, the last in the current series, will see the Graiguenamanagh Brass Band strike up an hour of music from 3pm.
The Ghosts in our Machine
One of the most talked about film on animal issues will be screened in Kilkenny this weekend, with a director on hand to answer questions. The Ghosts in our Machine will premiere Stateside in November but ahead of that it’ll be shown at Cartoon Saloon’s city base. Liz Marshal will be at the event which starts at 630pm on Friday. There’ll be food and product samples too. A suggestion donation of €4 would be welcome.
Enjoy an evening with Cara O’Sullivan in Graiguenamanagh this week. To round off the 2014 spread of Duiske Concerts the internationally renowned performer will impress with works by Verdi, Mendelssohn, Bach, Gounod, Handel,Puccini, Balfe and Sullivan. Show time is 8pm on Friday with tickets costing €20, €15 concession.
Watergate Productions are rolling our their latest show this week. Hugh Leonard’s Da opened at the Watergate Theatre on Monday night and will replay from 8pm each night to Saturday. Directed by Joe Murray, the cast includes Donal O’Brien, Colette Browne, Brendan Corcoran, Fergal Miller, Sean Hackett, Niall Bambrick, Amy Dunne and Marina Boyd. All are welcome to enjoy this local display of talent.
Gowran Little Theatre will stage Jim Nolan’s Moonshine in the parish hall in October. You can be part of the production if you turn up at the open auditions this Saturday at the same venue from 8pm. In particular they’re looking for a female actor aged 18-30 to play the part of Bridget.
Fresh from our own Light Colour Sound music festival, attention now turns to KnockanStockan. The independent music and arts event takes place this Friday and Saturday at Blessington Lakes, Co Wicklow. Booka Brass Band, The Eskies and I Draw Slow are among the 50 acts which will grace the three stages over the two days.
