Award-winning local violinist Patrick Rafter will give a recital on Friday at 8pm in the Hole in the Wall, High Street Kilkenny.

Patrick is the National Concert Hall Young Musician of the Year and has many prestigious winnings to his name. He intends to study under world-class tutor Mateja Marincovic at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he has earned a scholarship to study from this September.

Patrick was brought into music from an early age with both parents being musicians, his father Paddy a renowned tenor and his mother Maura an accomplished pianist. He has been the youngest ever leader of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and has an experienced life of music, from playing for President Mary McAleese at Áras an Uachtaráin to playing in the Royal Albert Hall.

His recital will include popular music, from violin classics to traditional Irish airs. Admission is free, but the aim is to raise money for his studies in London and so contributions will be welcome.
