Sorting through life’s layers

An exhibition of work by artist Siobhán Jordan opens on Friday evening in Meubles Cafe Gallery.

An exhibition of work by artist Siobhán Jordan opens on Friday evening in Meubles Cafe Gallery.

A mixed-media artist from Carlow, Siobhán works with family ephemera, looking at memories from childhood and how we access these feelings and emotions as adults. She explores identity, love, nature and dreams as recurring themes in life. By using layers of paint and paper, detailed pen and ink work, her paintings are quirky and strikingly different.

Siobhán graduated in 2003 with a Bdes (hons) Embroidery from NCAD. She has exhibited her work since then, showing in Ireland, China and England. She has won awards from Carlow County Council (Support for Professional Artists 2007), Éigse (Award for work of outstanding merit 2005) and has enjoyed residencies at The Cill Rialaig Centre (Kerry), Custom House studios (Mayo) and AIR Krems (Austria) Her installations have been shown for three years at the Body and Soul area at the Electric Picnic festival.

Meubles Cafe Gallery is located in Meubles furniture store in the Kilkenny Retail Park. The exhibition continues until September 30.
