Kilkenny Arts: Final concert of 2012 in Ballykeeffe

The stunning Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, maintained by a dedicated group of local volunteers and committee members will host the final music concert of 2012 on Saturday 18 August.

The stunning Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, maintained by a dedicated group of local volunteers and committee members will host the final music concert of 2012 on Saturday 18 August.

Hothouse Flowers front man, Liam O’ Maonlai, Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Commitments, The Tudors, Downtown Abbey) and Ronan O’ Snodaigh of Kila will perform together for the first time ever to close the music events of the summer for the amphitheatre in Kilmanagh.

Doyle Kennedy is getting ready to unleash her fifth solo album to the world and the second single, titled SING will be released on Friday 17 August. The album, also titled SING is already receiving huge acclaim in national and regional press, having received 4 ½ out of 5 in Hotpress Magazine this week. Doyle Kennedy is also well known for starring in hit TV shows such as The Tudors, Downtown Abbey and Titanic along with being one of the original members of The Commitments.

Last weekend with The Saw Doctors saw the biggest number attend a concert there ever. “We are overwhelmed and very excited about the music concerts here in Ballykeeffe, The Saw Doctors were fantastic, Jack L was superb and we’re closing this year with a show that has never happened before. We are looking forward to welcoming Liam, Maria & Ronan to the amphitheatre on Saturday” said Matt Sullivan, Chairman of the amphitheatre.

Kilkenny musicians Mark Stewart and Little Black Wren (Kairen Waloch) will open the evening’s entertainment on Saturday night. Doors open at 6pm. Guests are invited to bring a picnic. Due to the current weather conditions, the concert may be moved to Ballycallan Church on Saturday night. Ticket holders are asked to keep an eye on the amphitheatre’s facebook page for updates.
