Castlecomer Discovery Park is pleased to announce that the 2012 RDS National Crafts Competition Prize-winners’ Travelling Exhibition of prize-winning and exceptional works will be on display at the Visitor Centre from October 28 to November 18 from 10am – 5pm daily.

It will be officially opened by the RDS President, Mr Fonsie Mealy. This RDS Travelling Exhibition enables some of Ireland’s most talented craft makers to showcase their work, while providing the opportunity for a wide audience to view the latest craft works being created in Ireland. With categories such as ceramics, glass, furniture and textiles, there is something for all who have an interest in contemporary and traditional craft!

Sheila Jordan from Kells, Co Kilkenny won first prize in Felting for her Trasna na Farraige Series. This trio of felted vessels are beautifully crafted from wool and fine cotton mesh. Yvonne Ross, also from Kilkenny, was awarded second prize in the Gold, Silver & Alternative Materials category as well as the Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin Award for her teapot entitled The Punk Rocker. The teapot uses non-heat conductive red strands to rock the teapot forward to deliver a cup of tea – no need to lift the pot just rock it forward! First prize in the Woodturning Category was awarded to Robert O’Connor from Gorey, County Wexford for his entry Eye to the Ridge, a combination of glass and woodturning. Over 40 pieces of work will be on display at this exhibition including prize-winners in 20 categories with a number of artists from the South East. This is a free event, further information: www.discoverypark.ie
