One of Kilkenny’s longest-running festivals returns this weekend.

The 24 annual Rockfall Festival runs each year across the October Bank Holiday weekend. It’s the main fund-raiser for Enable Ireland at the O’Neill Centre. This year over 70 acts of all kinds will entertain at a variety of city venues.

One of the highlights this year is the Mayfair Ballroom Anniversary Dance, which takes place in Hotel Kilkenny on Friday. Dancing there is to The Marble City Sounds with guest performers from the showband era, Paddy Hanrahan (Nomads Showband), Sonny Cullen (Black Aces Showband) and special guest Paschal Brennan with the Joe Dolan Tribute Show. Full show 9.30 to 1.30. Admission is €10 with all proceeds to Enable Ireland Kilkenny. Tickets can be booked by ringing 087 9582127 or there’ll be tickets also at the door on the night. This night is dedicated to the memory of the great Larry Cunningham, who sadly passed away recently. Larry performed many times in the Mayfair Ballroom during the showband years with his band The Mighty Avons.

Other tributes will be to Thin Lizzy and Sawdoctors while also this year world-renowned dance/progressive DJ John Gibbons, there’s a busking competition, leg wax and lots more.

While all of the pub gigs are free, attendees are asked to support the cause by donating whatever they can.
