THE South Kilkenny Historical Society will conclude a very successful outing programme on August 20 with a cruise of the River Barrow.

2011 represents the 220th anniversary of the opening of the River Barrow as a navigable waterway and, accordingly is an important milestone in the history and heritage of one of Ireland’s most scenic natural assets. A number of state and local agencies came together in 2009, to put in place a co-ordinated campaign of celebrations commemorating this occasion.

As part of Heritage Week, the South Kilkenny Historical Society has organised a cruise of the River Barrow on Saturday, August 20. The cruise will commence at 2.30pm from New Ross (The Galley Cruise) and returns to New Ross at approximately 4.30pm. There will be commentary during the cruise, provided by a member of the society.

Cost: €12 (including tea and scones)
