He has an amazing voice, is a charming and unassuming young man and is a great credit to his parents, family and County Carlow.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS - The Cops and Doughnut Shops event in Bagenalstown on Friday, April 27 was a great success and raised €2,657.95 for Special Olympics Leinster. The organisers of the event would like to thank everybody who made the event possible and who contributed to generously on the day. Thanks to Bagenalstown Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, An Garda Siochana, Beam Services, The 1st Bagenalstown Baden Powell Scout Troop and all the volunteers who assisted in so many ways. Particular thanks to the Special Olympics athletes who attended and thanks also to Connolly’s Super Valu and the Bank of Ireland for their courtesy and cooperation.

BAGENALSTOWN IN PICTURE - Bagenalstown has been chosen to represent Co. Carlow in the 2012 Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place Competition. This Competition recognises and celebrates the vital contribution that community groups/organisations, residents’ associations, youth groups and members of our community. The committee hopes that everyone will submit at least one entry; so that they can get a true representation of all Bagenalstown has to offer. Pictures will be showcased in different businesses around the town, before and during the Pride of Place Competition, so that everyone will get an opportunity to participate and enjoy the visual display of Bagenalstown.

Photographs for the exhibition can be submitted to the following – Bagenalstown Credit Union, Bagenalstown Library, Déjà vu, High Street and Family Resource Centre. Mark all envelopes “ Bagenalstown in Picture”. Please be aware that photographs will be displayed in business premises within the town, and, if possible, send copies of original photographs. Please ensure that photographs are labelled on the back with name, contact details and name of organisation/club. The closing date for entries is May 31st 2012.

NEW OPENING HOURS – MUINE BHEAG GARDA STATION - To facilitate new roster arrangements new opening hours are now applicable at Muine Bheag Garda Station. These are as follows – Monday to Sunday 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. Please note that it may sometimes be necessary to close the Station during these hours to deal with urgent matters or emergencies. When the Station is unattended please contact Carlow Garda Station on (059) 9131505, 999 or 112 (in emergencies only) or use the Public Access Call Box at the Station door.

INFORMATION STAND - Carlow Volunteer Centre will have an Information Stand in Bagenalstown Credit Union on Friday, May 11 from 10am to noon. Information is available on many different volunteering opportunities around the south of the county. Contact or ring 059 9173033.

PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK - Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on May 31. A bus will leave the Fire Station at Fair Green at 7.25am. Cost – adults €18. Children €10. If interested contact Maura Hanlon on 97 21239.

JUNK KOUTURE COMPETITION - Congratulations to the Presentation De La Salle College students, Kerry Ryan, Dearbhla Reid and Orla Dunphy who reached the final of the national Junk Kouture Competition recently. The girls were in the top three in their regional final and were in the top twelve overall out of over one thousand entries. Well done, girls.

TALK ON SOUTH CARLOW - Dr. Kevin Whelan will give a talk about South Carlow in the 18th and 19th century in Myshall Community Centre on Tuesday, May 15 at 8pm. All are welcome.

HOME CARE FUNDRAISER - A traditional Irish Hooley will be held at Niall Quinn’s Manor House, Bagenalstown, on Saturday, May 12, kicking off at 8.30pm, in aid of Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team. Music by traditional Irish band, “ The Mighty Ghosts of Erin”. You are all welcome to dress in your green, white and gold for a night of craic and ceoil in aid of a very worthy cause.
