Moneenroe - Sewerage upgrade welcomed

SEWERAGE UPGRADE - A much sought after upgrade to the Clogh / Moneenroe sewerage scheme is included in the 2010-2013 Water Services investment programme according to local County Councillor John Brennan who estimates that the cost of the work will in the region of 5 million euro. County Council engineers are compiling a brief for the engagement of consultants to prepare a preliminary report on the scheme.

DOUBLE FOR SCHOOLS HURLERS - It was a highly successful week for the natinal schools team which had two very good away wins in Kilkenny and Ballyragget. Clogh/Moneenroe National Schools played Gaelscoile Osrai B in the Country Cup in Larchfield and as usual saw a large number of parents supporting the schools team. The first half saw Clogh/Moneenroe dominate but unfortunately could not hit the target and this brought the opponents into the game with the half ending 0-1 each. The second half started in the same fashion with some great team play and the first goal beingn scored by Ciaran Farnan. From the puck out Gaelscoile Osrai B went down to the other end of the pitch and scored a goal bringing the game level. Thomas Brennan added points with great freetaking. Gaelscoile Osrai B scored a second goal but the Clogh/Moneenroe players never gave up and and saw the whole team performing very well. Kevin Young scored one of the best points of the game, which also saw some great points from Michael Doyle and Ciaran Cooney. The second Clogh/Moneenroe goal came from great teamwork with Ciaran Cooney sending in a great ball to the forwards and Michael Doyle finishing to the net. The score at the final whistle was Clogh/Moneenroe 2-9 Gaelscoile Osrai B 2-2. The display of hurling and team work on the day was the best to date. Great credit goes to the coaches. Clogh/Moneenroe played Ballyragget National School recently in Ballyragget. Once again there was a big turnout of parents to cheer on the team. The first half opened well for the Clogh/Moneenroe lads, first score came from Eoin Regan which was cancelled out a short time later by Ballyragget. The local boys hurled well and showed great team work with the passing of the ball to one another resulting in a point for Ciaran Cooney. Shortly after Clogh/Moneenroe were awarded a free which Thomas Brennan put over the bar.The first goal was scored by Clogh/Moneenroe with a great pass from Ciaran Farnan to Michael Doyle who blasted it to the net. The Ballyragget lads kept hurling away and were awarded for their play with a goal and shortly after pointed a free. Coming to half time Ciaran Farnan scored a great point with Kyle Dunne finishing the ball to net. Score at half time was Clogh/Moneenroe 2-4 Ballyragget 1-2. Second half saw Clogh/Moneenroe open the score with a great goal from Alan O Neill and shortly after another goal by Ciaran Cooney. Next two points were from Eoin Regan and and Ciaran Farnan. Once again Ballyragget never gave up and the next two scores were two goals for them. The Clogh/Moneenroe backs were under pressure at this stage of the game but never gave up and cleared some great balls bringing the team back into the game. Coming up to full time Eoin Regan scored the final point. Once again the team as a whole put on a great display of hurling. The final score was Clogh/Moneenroe NS 4-7 Ballyragget NS 3-2. An extra five minutes was played at the end to allow all players get a game and Clogh/Moneenroe School scored the only two scores with a point from Kevin Young and a goal from Adam Maguire. CLONEEN - Cloneen Junior ‘B’ team continued their run of good form and remain unbeaten in 2012 after travelling to Palmerstown on Saturday and coming away with a 1-10 to 1-9 win.

TIDY TOWNS - Last Thursday saw a three large groups of pupils from Clogh National under the supervision of members of the local Tidy Towns committee take on a major ante litter campaign ll over the village.
