Arts: Watergate exhibitions to end

THE art exhibitions in the Watergate Theatre’s upstairs gallery that have been hosted by the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office will come to an end after this December due to funding cutbacks, writes Tess Felder.

THE art exhibitions in the Watergate Theatre’s upstairs gallery that have been hosted by the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office will come to an end after this December due to funding cutbacks, writes Tess Felder.

The announcement was made in the theatre’s programme for the remainder of 2012, in which theatre manager Ger Cody paid tribute to Mary Butler and Niamh Finn in the Arts Office for helping to give new artists a platform for their work. The Arts Office budget was cut by €10,000 last week and further cuts are expected for 2013.
