DEBUT author Maura Byrne will enthral young readers with the mad-cap, comic story for nine to twelve year olds Bridget in Werewolf Rehab, a story about what happens to werewolves who aren’t savage beasts and vampires who hate blood when she visits the Book Centre at 1.15pm today (Wednesday).

Maura will be reading and discussing passages from the comic fantasy, leading ‘howling practice’ with her young audiences and introducing them to writing tips like using the five senses when writing.

For reluctant readers and reluctant werewolves like Bridget, Maura is determined to get kids to pick up books using a captivating style and this hilarious fantasy is perfect to get their teeth into. Maura has already clocked up hundred’s of miles in a bid to deliver howling entertainment to over a thousand kids, with her book Bridget in Werewolf Rehab in local libraries and classrooms nationwide.

According to the author; “It’s not always easy to get your child to read. What children want from a story is the possibility of being transported to another world. Stories with humour and fantasy are the ultimate escape and that’s what inspired me to write Bridget. A good tip to encourage reading is to buy stories around your child’s hobby or if they love a particular author or series, buy or borrow the other books.”

According to the CBI Children’s Book Festival 2012 recommended reads list, “JK Rowling combined school and magic, Maura Byrne mixes rehab and werewolf. And the mix works. Set in Mallow, Bridget and other cosmopolitan, special-needs teenagers’ Skype, have laptops, but they also shape-shift, howl and growl. Their destiny: to be a werewolf. This tale with its fresh, rude, palpable physicality will captivate, unsettle and thrill young readers. Bridget is feisty, memorable and the werewolf scenario is expertly sustained. Add in vampires, leprechauns, a mystery violet-coloured bottle and a murder plot and you have a cracking tale.”Self-published by the author, Bridget in Werewolf Rehab is the first instalment in the Bridget Trilogy. Priced at €9.99 it can be purchased at Easons and online at www.amazon.com, www.smashwords.com, and www.maura-byrne.com
