One such outlet, Stonehouse Books, has a special offering on Monday night. Owner Liz Walsh has invited The Bookshop Band to perform at the Kieran Street outlet from 7pm.

The Bath, England, based trio of Ben Please, Beth Porter and Poppy Pitt write songs inspired by books and perform them at literary festivals, libraries, book stores, often at author events.

From Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland to Andrew Miller’s Pure the variety of topics and titles has been huge.

They arrive in Ireland on Thursday to play a number of outlets in Dublin, TIpperary, Cork, Kerry, Waterford.

On Monday they arrive in Kilkenny to play Stonehouse Books in what promises to be a special event for an intimate group of people.

Anybody can pop along but the advice is get their early. Entry costs a mere €5, not bad for an evening of original music during which you can browse some titles and relax.
