A combination of German and Irish cast and crew collaborated on the series, which is produced by Andreas Barreiss and features overlapping characters in each.

A number of locals were used as extras in the filming and they were delighted with their new found fame.

The episodes were partly filmed in Munich and also took in Dublin locations at Howth and Stephen’s Green before moving to Kilkenny.

Love/Hate’s Aoibhinn McGinnity co-stars in the series alongside German actress Yvonne Catterfeld and Julia Richter; and German actors Sebastian Ströbe and Roman Knizka.

Other Irish actors who appear in both parts include Stuart Dunne, Kerry O’Brien, Brendan Conroy, Valerie Connor and Rebecca Grimes.

Inistioge is no stranger to film crews and was used as a set the hugely popular feature length film Circle of Friends. Widow’s Peak was also filmed in the scenic village in 1993.

‘Romantic Road’ was co-produced by Octagon Films and Germany’s ZDF channel and is due for general release later this year or early next year and will be shown in Kilkenny.
