This Thursday is the longest day of the year and, as part of the festivities, Love:Live music kicks into play.

The day-long celebration of all forms of music in Ireland sees free live music events in cities, towns and villages all over the country.

The event is presented by Music Network in association with RTÉ Lyric FM and funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Arts Council Deis Funding.

In Kilkenny the occasion kicks off at 2pm on the Town Hall with the Irish Wheelchair Association’s Singing Afternoon. The group of service users and staff sings together every Thursday afternoon and will showcase their talents this Thursday on the city’s main thoroughfare with an assortment of songs covering rock and roll, pop and ballads.

They’re followed then at 3pm with a traditional show of music, song and dance at the Courtyard of Kilkenny Castle. Members of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann the group, led by Noreen O’Neill, will entertain also for an hour, while the group’s CCE counterparts in Graignamanagh will host a Traditional Street Session on the Market Square in that town from 6.30-8pm.

Keep your eyes and ears open for more and, more importantly, get out and enjoy!
