Office party pzazz

Thankfully, I see a lot of companies are making an effort to have a Christmas party this year. With everyone offering great deals it is do-able and lifts the spirits in work. It’s nice to have something to look forward to while you’re in the middle of the pre-Christmas slog, even if it’s a cocktail (sausage!) or two and a few bevvies in the local. For us girls it’s also an excuse to pull out all our sparkly gear for it’s annual airing.

It’s nice to have something to look forward to while you’re in the middle of the pre-Christmas slog, even if it’s a cocktail (sausage!) or two and a few bevvies in the local. For us girls it’s also an excuse to pull out all our sparkly gear for it’s annual airing.

Too early for Christmas talk? Well, judging by the amount of requests I’ve had for a knockout festive party dress I can tell you that the party season is in full swing already. Also, with lots of pre-Christmas discounts and sales you can swipe that guna at a bargain-busting price. It’s all good…

As a matter of fact, the only problem is choosing one! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a vast selection as I have this year. With glamour high in the fashion stakes the offerings have never looked so luxe and gorgeous. With lady-like style still going strong you will also have the benefit of flattering shapes too.

I love that it’s the one time of year that you can have a bit of fun with your look. Red polka dot shoes and a Santa hat? …… why of course, you look great! The magpies in us are drawn to all that glitters and glows. There is always a sprinkle of sequins about, embellishing and trimming elegant dresses but this season full on sparkle ensues. Fully sequined dresses are everywhere. If you have great legs then go short and sexy but add some balance with elbow length sleeves to draw the eye up. You can play around with colour as they come in all the usual metallic colours of gold, silver, bronze and black and cream. I particularly like the black and gold striped dress, pictured here, from Warehouse. It’s very clever the way the stripes draw in to the waist while still nodding to the cool glamour of the 70’s.

Colour is everywhere, in every incarnation. There are still the fabulous Gucci inspired clashes of greens and purple and pinks around and watch out for kooky coloured prints like green or burgundy leopard prints that are filtering through too. The new ‘black dress’ is in fact the ‘red dress’. I love the wow factor of a great red dress. For those of you who use the excuse that it doesn’t compliment your colouring then just look to Florence who clashes it with her red hair. In fact, there are so many versions of the shade of red out there, from cherry, burgundy to burnt orange that you will definitely find the one if your heart desires. It’s also a colour that works with simple silhouettes and even looks hot with long sleeves and hems. The one pictured here looks amazing on pear shaped girls.

A trend that is going to be massive next year but that is peeking through now is the flapper style. With the popularity of programmes like Downton Abbey our brains have been tuned into that pretty style too. The most prevalent shades are in subtle shell pinks and creams and are usually sequin and chiffon heaven….and in a pretty way. For the full effect pick up a faux fur shrug, as seen on the Miu Miu catwalk, to complete the romantic look. A/Wear have some cute ones on special offer at the moment.

We can’t talk about party dresses though and not mention the perennial reliable black dress. Black doesn’t need to be boring though. Lace is such a huge trend that is uber flattering. For all you ladies that would prefer your arms to not see the light of day then check out all the pretty dresses with lace or chiffon sleeves. The polka dot trend is everywhere with high street copies of the Stella McCartney dress everywhere.

Not everyone likes dresses though. I love the playful tux looks that are finally popping up. The one pictured here is from Penney’s. The jacket would look great with some playful lace shorts or a sequin mini either and some opaque tights for a trendier look. Also, try swapping the blouse for a sequin vest to add just the right amount of glam.

PS Speaking of Christmas parties….. I am having my own get together of sorts this Friday the 2nd December at 7pm in MacDonagh Junction. The lovely ‘powers that be’ have given me an early Christmas pressie of a gorgeous girle Style Studio to hang out and play dress up in. It is tucked away opposite Dunne’s Stores (I’m seriously thinking of getting cable TV and a stove in too!). To celebrate, all you gorgeous girls are invited to join me for some vino and nibbles and as an extra bonus, I’ll be doing a free workshop on Christmas Party Looks (of course..). The talented make up artist, Michael Browne will also be there to demonstrate some fab make up looks to brighten your festive look. Our lucky makeover winner will also be unveiled. So come along if you havn’t got your festive look sorted yet…. or even if you just want to hang out with the girls…. See you there ..

PS Mac Donagh Junction had Xpose (TV3) filming in the centre with two of the Hype Models. Tune in to Xpose on TV3 this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening.
