THE theatrical comedy hit of the year, ‘The ALL STAR Wars’ has had audiences rolling in the aisles everywhere that it has played since it’s premiere at Cork Opera House in April 2011.
To date, The ALL STAR Wars has played Cork Opera House twice, as well as Glor Theatre in Ennis and two sell-out runs at Waterford’s Theatre Royal. The show has played two runs at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, and has had a sell-out one night stand at Cappoquin Community Centre. The ALL STAR Wars plays one night only at Limerick’s University Concert Hall on Friday May 25, from where it goes on to headline at Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre on June 1 and 2.
Presented by Theatrix Productions, The ALL STAR Wars is Ireland’s first ever stage show which looks sideways at, parodies and pays tribute to our nation’s number one obsession….hurling! Soccer was gifted with ‘I Keano’ and rugby with ‘Alone it Stands’, and now hurling has it’s moment in the theatrical limelight with this spectacular comedy. The ALL STAR Wars follows the adventures of Hugh Cullen, the last known descendant of Cu-Chulainn. Hugh is a family man, a club man and all-round lost cause. After getting a knock on the head from the business end of a hurley, Hugh Cullen is visited from the year 3012 by the enigmatic Obi Wan Camogie. What ensues from Obi Wan Camogie’s apparition to Hugh is two hours of top shelf comedy script, punctuated by fun filled comedic songs and hilarious Audio Visual sequences. Writers Kevin McCormack and Bryan Flynn transpose us to a world where the gags, both verbal and visual come thick and fast. A world rich with colourful characters including Obi Wan Camogie, King Henry of The Shefflin Order and Lady GAA GAA. We meet comic characters familiar to us all, including Hugh’s motley crew of junior B team mates, our favourite pundits (as you’ve never seen them before!) a temperamental goalkeeper (with the emphasis on ‘mental’) and Ireland’s most outspoken parish priest!
With special guest audio visual appearances by commentator Marty Morrissey and Sunday Game pundit Tomas Mulcahy, this spectacular production is further authenticated by ‘the voice of the GAA’ Micheal O Muircheartaigh, who narrates the story and provides the commentary for the final epic battle between The ALL STAR Alliance and The Cat Commandos.
