Kilkenny band The Scenes this weekend will be sending the video to their latest single live. The visual side of Alone will be shared on Friday by the group who were finalists in the Hot Press Big Break Competition.

Meanwhile, the outfit is penciled in a November 4 date for Kytler’s Inn and they’ll play November 8 at Billy Byrne’s.

Mr Nice

Howard Marks is back to tell more tales from his Mr Nice lifestyle. Scholar, Smuggler, Prisoner, Scribe is his new show which The Laughing Stock Comedy Club brings to the Watergate Theatre this Saturday from 8pm.

The one-man production sees Marks look back at four extraordinary and action-packed phases of his life. Tickets are €15/€13.

Freddie White

Maestro of quality music Freddie White makes a welcome return to Kilkenny. A stalwart of the Irish live music scene since the 1970s, this Corkonion has a steady band of fans which is constantly being added to.

A founding member of Scullion, The Fake and The Freddie White Band, he’s regularly toured Europe and most recently dedicated himself to the development of his latest recording, collaborating with songwriters Jimmy MacCarthy and Jim Barrett. But it’s in the live arena where he truly excels, and you can enjoy that for yourself at Cleere’s Theatre this Saturday night.

Farmer Calendar

A Kilkenny man is fronting a special Irish Farmer Calendar. Gareth Alcorn runs Nore Valley Park in Bennetsbridge and was snapped holding a goat which was wearing wellies. The shot covers the calendar, an annual fundraising initative for Bothar. Find out more on

Tommy Tiernan

One of Ireland’s best known comedic talents has pencilled in a number of local dates. Tommy Tiernan’s World Tour of Kilkenny takes in the Bridgebrook Arms in Thomastown on October 2, Gowran Park on October 4, Graiguenamanagh Centre on October 12 and Lyrath Hotel on October 13. Promising four nights of pure madness and craic, tickets cost €28 and are available and the venues.

JP Ryan

After something of a hiatus Kilkenny musician JP Ryan this week is releasing a single. ‘We Can Be Found’ is being revealed to the world via digital download stores today (Wednesday).

It’s the first track from Talk A Walk With Me, his new album which has been recorded and produced by Thomm Jutz at TJ Tunes in Nashville, Tennessee and which is due for release early next year. You’ll find it then on the Blue Mavis Music label.


Two educational facilities are set to host reunions this weekend. Ballydaniel National School in Threecastles has its on Friday starting with Mass at 7.30pm. That’s followed by the unveiling of a memorial plaque and a party in Campion’s. Loreto Secondary School’s Class of 1993 has its 20 year meet-up at Statam’s at the Pembroke Hotel on Saturday night from 8pm.
