A GROUP of Hungarian feltmakers will give a talk at the Castle Yard Studio at the Kilkenny Design Centre on August 25 from 11 am to 12.30pm as part of Heritage Week and the Year of Craft 2011.

This ‘Craft in Conversation’ talk is organised by Feltmakers Ireland as part of an Irish – Hungarian feltmaker exchange.

A delegation from Feltmakers Ireland are travelling to Budapest this month to take part in Mesterségek Ünnepe (A Mastercrafts Celebration), which is often described as one of the biggest craft and folk fairs in Europe; and in exchange a group of Hungarian feltmakers are visiting Ireland.

The event will be an opportunity to experience the breadth and scope of feltmaking across Europe, to meet some of the makers and to see examples of Hungarian feltwork on display.

The talk will be presented by Boro Jasko, master felter and member of the Hungarian Heritage House. She will discuss the long and lively traditions and contemporary developments in Hungarian feltmaking and also that of Eastern Europe and central Asia. Also speaking will be Sheila Ahern, Crafts Council of Ireland board member and Feltmakers Ireland committee member.

All are welcome; for more information, contact Marika on 086 0638018.
