Struck by lightening and other stories

A BRAND new show of stand-up theatre from one of our finest comic story-tellers comes to the Watergate Theatre this week.

Owen O’Neill, comedian, actor, playwright, poet, star of hit Edinburgh Fringe productions ‘Twelve Angry Men’, ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’, and ‘The Odd Couple’ is, as far as we know, the only comedian alive to have been struck by lightning.

Whilst robbing the Nun’s orchard, Owen’s school uniform was burned to shreds and the apples down his Wellingtons were stewed. He glowed in the dark for two weeks, developed a stammer and a firm belief that he was indestructible.

Owen has performed all over the world. His speciality, outside of the comedy circuit, is the one man show, once described by Time Out as ‘Stand-up theatre’. He has won several awards for these shows including a Perrier nomination and two Fringe Firsts at The Edinburgh Festival. He guested in the USA on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and did his own one-man run of plays at the West Beth Theatre, New York. He also starred in his own BBC 2 special.

The show will take place on March 7 at The Watergate Theatre. Admission is €15 and €12.50
