It was the continuous negative talk of the recession which spurred Ms Murphy to produce the book, as she wanted to bring more hope into people’s lives. ‘Now is a time when we have to look more within ourselves for job creation rather than outside of ourselves’, said the author. Entrepreneurship is now a real career choice. Peel Your Own Orange is a practical guide to starting your own business which also takes lifestyle needs and goals into the planning process. The book aims to make business start-up open to everyone, even those who never thought about starting a business! The book begins with a session in brainstorming for ideas, and follows onto areas such as creating business plans, project management, technology and running an online business, finance, pricing, marketing, and also offers encouragement and insights along the way. The Foreword to the book is by Kilkenny-based, Terry Clune, Managing Director, Taxback.com who won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009. Other successful Irish entrepreneurs also took time to contribute to the book include, Kilkenny’s Dylan Collins of Jolt Online Gaming, and Mary Anne O’ Brien of Lily O’Brien’s Chocolates. The RTÉ Guide magazine recently described the book as being ‘about getting started in business with a 10-step guide to finding your feet.’

The author has over twenty years of experience in the workplace, including small business start-ups in both London and Ireland, and has worked in media and public relations. She has also guest lectured on Entrepreneurship at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD). She has an honours Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School at University College Dublin. Peel Your Own Orange is written in an easy to read style. “So whether you are a stay-at home parent with little pockets of free time across your day or evening, unemployed, bored in your job, retired, a recent graduate, a third-level or transition year student, want to build an online business, or are just curious about what it takes to set up and run your own business, this book allows you to explore starting your own business in your own time and space” said Ms Murphy.

The Book Centre at High Street, Kilkenny was first book store in Ireland to take delivery of the book, Peel Your Own Orange by Brigitte T. Murphy, which is now also available in all book stores nationwide at 12.99 euro.
