Ex Carlow-Kilkenny Green Party Minister, Mary White, is following her passion for the environment by launching ‘Blackstairs Eco Trails’, a new tourist enterprise which encourages lovers of the outdoors to take a walk on the wild side.

Mary, who lost her seat in the general election and who lives in Killedmond in Borris, Co Carlow with her husband Robert, has long been captivated by the beauty and tranquillity of the Blackstairs mountains. Now she is going to make a new career by helping others to learn about the mountains, the River Barrow, and the birds, flora, fungi, mammals and butterflies that live there.

Blackstairs Eco Trails are two hours long, unhurried and relaxing – varying from low hills no hills, Mary White explains. The walks all start with refreshments in the White home, The Old Rectory - and finish there with a good, old fashioned Rectory high tea, most of which is organically produced in the area.
