Two Kilkenny companies travelled to New Zealand recently to promote their trade and create new business links abroad.

Joe Brennan from Brennan Fencing in Johnstown and Joe Dooley from Dooley Bros Engineering Works in Ballycallan both exhibited at the New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays held from June 13-16 – the largest show of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

The two companies were among the half-dozen represented on the Enterprise Ireland stand at the event, with a few other Irish companies also exhibiting on their own or with their distributors. Brennan Fencing had a front loader mounted post driver on display and Dooley Bros had a silage trailer and a general-purpose tipper on display.

Mr Dooley said afterwards that he was pleased with the results. “Our main thing was to try to line up some dealers and we got some interested parties,” he said, “so we have some potential dealers and some potential distributors.”

Despite high shipping costs at the moment, he said, “the quality of the Irish trailers, in our case, is higher than what is being produced out there at the moment. That gives us a bit of an advantage.”

“People were impressed with the quality and the price,” he said.
