Finalists announced for 25,000 “Giving a Start” Competition

Business owners based in 11 Patrick Street are behind the “Giving A Start” Competition aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs to follow their dream and start their own business.

Business owners based in 11 Patrick Street are behind the “Giving A Start” Competition aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs to follow their dream and start their own business.

The business people are offering their services, support and experience free to the winning entry. In addition, the owner of 11 Patrick Street, John Ryan, is offering cash, accommodation and business support facilities as part of the winning package - while the Kilkenny local authorities “Invest Kilkenny” initiative will provide support to the winner, including 1,000 seed money. Invest Kilkenny was established last November to market Kilkenny as a place to do business because of its global access, its talented labour pool, and quality of life.

Five innovative new businesses ranging from a food company to an animal health enterprise have been selected to battle it out for the winning prize of 25,000 euros on March 31st next.

They are: Joseph Dalton of Intellehealth; Tim Vierhout and Brenda Little Vierhout of Envierho Aqua Protect Ltd; Sean Doyle and Rodger Greene with Energy Partner; Trish McOwan, Clare Hughes MPSI, Joseph Haire MPSI and Bernadette Kenny MVB set up Animal Farmacy Ltd last October; Tom Watts with the My Secret Recipe Company.

The judging panel consists of well-known entrepreneur and Kilkenny native, Bobby Kerr, CEO of coffee chain Insomnia, Terry Clune, CEO of Taxback.com, and Paula Fitzsimons, an expert in entrepreneurship.

The businesses participating include; Paschal Bergin & Co Accountants & Tax Consultants, MD Media PR Consultants, Brian Dunlop Architects, Optimize Recruitment, Real Solutions Staff Training and Coaching, Fitzwilliam Partnership, Strategic and Financial Management, Pembroke Hotel, 11 Patrick Street Business Centre

Final judging will take place in The Pembroke Hotel on March 31st. with the winner announced that evening at a special function.
