An exciting new and innovative pilot business venture launched recently ‘Made in Kilkenny at Goods’.

This is a brand new craft retail outlet on the first floor mezzanine of Goods Department store on High Street selling the very best of handmade products from the Made in Kilkenny craftmakers.

The launch started with flying success being packed out by a great attendance of craft makers, buyers and supporters including our very own Mayor David FitzGerald who recently commissioned Made member Karen Morgan to produce a new porcelain tea set for the Mayors’s Office seeing the value of supporting and showcasing local Irish craft.

Karen Hennessy, the Chief Executive of the Crafts Council of Ireland officially opened the outlet giving a wonderful address andstating the importance of supporting Irish Craft and how now more than ever people really want to buy Irish and buy quality and how lucky we are to have such a rich source in Kilkenny.

‘Made in Kilkenny’, established in 2009, consists of 27 craft members who have combined their drive and passion for their craft to initiate professional makers coming together to directly promote their business, increase public awareness of their craft and of Kilkenny as a tourist destination. Many of the craftmakers have won major national and international accolades including, jeweller Jane Huston, who won in the Royal Dublin Show’s Precious metal category 2011 and Mark Campden of the ‘Bridge Pottery’ was three times winner at the RDS also for Ceramics, the Crafts Council of Ireland Purchase Award and the RDS Award of Excellence.
