There appears to be lots of confidence in all aspects of farming with excellent prices been achieved.A noticeable feauture of cattle and sheep sales at the moment is the amount of new customers appearing in Cillinhill To sell and buy livestock. The improved infrastructure means it is much easier to access Kilkenny Mart and when on the premises there is much more to see and do as opposed to other livestock centres.Hopefully this positive situation will continue which is helping to make agriculture a beacon of hope in our depressed economy.

Our sale on Thursday was complete by 4.30pm even allowing for the fact we had over 1100 animals on offer and a special suckler sale. When auctioneers and staff can get through over a lot a minute it means it’s a fast selling trade which is beneficial for both buyer and seller. The reason for the excellent trade which we are experiencing at the moment is the great grass growth, improved factory prices, and lots of confidence.

The sheep trade is also showing lots of positivity for both hoggets and spring lambs this week is the traditional week for larger numbers of spring lambs to appear for the Easter market so it will be interesting to see if increased numbers will effect trade.

The calf numbers were reduced significantly on last Monday but the strong prices have remained.Dairy numbers have increased with prices coming under pressure except for the very top lots a top call at the sale was €1500.

Wishing all readers a happy Easter and enjoy the sun shine. Until next week good buying good selling and good luck.
