FOLLOWING Sunday’s ploughing match in Smithstown, Listerlin, three Kilkenny men will represent Kilkenny in the intermediate section of the All Ireland ploughing championships in New Ross next September. At the Tullogher-Glenmore match, Cathal Brady, Gowran won the class with 100 marks. Tommy Cuddihy, Jenkinstown was second with 96 and Willie Ryan, Tullogher was third on 93.
There was one farmerette and now Kathleen Cummins from Tullogher will also represent the county at the All Ireland.
The Conway family provided an excellent site and there was great ploughing. The big news is that Tom Madigan, firhouse has lost out to the Ireland men, Garry and Brian from Danesfort in the senior reversible class and these two will now compete for the county in the All Ireland next autumn.
Reversible senior, two furrow class: 1 John Whelan, New Ross 124; 2 Dan Donnelly, Blackwater 123; 3 Garry Ireland, Danesfort 115.
Under 28 two furrow reversible - Andrew Ireland will represent Kilkenny in the All Ireland. Standard three furrow reversible: 1 Robert Madigan, Firhouse 94; 2 Daniel Dwyer, Johnstown 85. Under 21 conventional two furrow: Tony McGrath, Mooncoin 102. Macra class: 1 Eamon O’Donoghue, Tullogher. Farmerette: Kathleen Cummins, Tullogher 86. Three furrow standard class: 1 Ned Conway, Tullogher 95; 2 Michael Foran, Mooncoin 87; 3 Edward Forristal, Tullogher 83. Vintage, two furrow mounted (TVO):3 Tommy Cullen, Annamult, Bennettsbridge.
