A strong field of 51 vehicles are to be considered for the Continental Irish Car of the Year 2014 awards. The list of contenders was announced by the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA) this week.
The Continental Irish Car of the Year and Continental Irish Van of the Year will be revealed at a gala event in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, on Thursday, November 21.
’People motoring correspondent John Knox is among the jury members.
Gerry Murphy, chairman of the IMWA, said the number of cars eligible for this year’s award was up from 36 entrants last year to 51 new models, which is a 38% increase.
“Although we mightn’t see signs of it here in Ireland yet, the car manufacturers are certainly showing confidence in the wider European car market,” he added.
The 28 voting members of the Irish Motoring Writers’ Association assess each vehicle, attributing points on criteria ranging from innovation and safety, to space, comfort, build quality, driving quality and value for money.
