PEUGEOT will unveil their new RCZ R, which is due here in the new year, at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
This is a super-performance version of ithe popular Sports coupé and is the most powerful production model in the history of the marque. Boasting class leading levels of power and efficiency, the RCZ R 1.6 litre 270bhp (199kW) accelerates from 0 to 100km in less than 6 seconds but emits just 145g/km of CO2, a benchmark in its category.
The engine, fitted already to the existing RCZ Sports Coupe and the new Peugeot 208 GTi, was recently awarded International Engine of the Year 2013 for the 7th year in succession.
With a lower ride height of 10mm and bigger 19” wheels, the RCZ R is adorned with matt black roof arches and headlights to give it an even more expressive posture. Its special wheels are a two-toned
diamond/matt black finish, hallmarked with an ‘R’ on the alloy.
Its exclusive R badge signature, red Peugeot lettering on the grille and Peugeot Sport signature on the red front calipers and door sills ensure the new RCZ R is differentiated from its sister coupe.
Red overstitching on the leather interior, a small steering wheel, a short gear lever, aluminium gear knob and new sports seats developed by Peugeot Sport all actively contribute to the luxurious and sporty drive experience.
The RCZ R’s new 270bhp THP engine, with a capacity of just 1.6-litres, sets a power record in the category and is among the best in the world for a production vehicle, whilst already complying with Euro 6 emission standards.
The performance figures have been obtained by mastering engine downsizing, optimising the aerodynamic properties and reducing weight.
Downsizing is a strong trend, both in road car production and motor sport, with the main disciplines now using a 1.6-litre turbo engine; even Formula 1 is moving to it in 2014.
To reduce weight specially commissioned parts have been fitted, resulting in a saving of 17kg compared to a 200bhp RCZ. With a weight of 1280kg, the RCZ R therefore has a weight/power ratio of just 4.7kg/bhp.
The work carried out on the aerodynamic properties has increased the rear downforce by 15daN, thanks to a new fixed rear spoiler, which offers stability at high speed, without reducing the drag. To further harness the considerable power, RCZ R is equipped with special suspension settings, 0.5 inch wider wheel rims and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 235 / 40 R19 tyres.
The lowered centre of gravity and Torsen differential ensure optimal grip and stability.
The new RCZ R, developed in conjunction with Peugeot Sport first and foremost for use on a circuit, will also be comfortable and easy to live with off circuit.
It is docile and responsive enough for everyday use, registering just 6.3 litres/100km consumption, a benchmark in its category.
