Dunnamaggin’s most famous son in sport was honoured by his own at the Dunnamaggin parish dinner dance at the weekend.

Noel Hickey, proud warrior in the club and county colours and winner of a record equalling nine All-Ireland senior hurling medals, was made a presentation following his retirement from the inter-county game.

Hickey, along with Henry Shefflin (Ballyhale Shamrocks) and Noel Skehan (Bennettsbridge), are the only players in the history of the GAA to win nine All-Ireland senior medals.

The Dunnamaggin man played in the 2012 All-Ireland final before announcing his retirement at the beginning of the year.

He joined the Kilkenny senior panel in 2000 and went on to win an astonishing 15 medals at national level, having earlier won under-21 All-Ireland honours when team captain.

The dinner in Hotel Kilkenny attracted a large crowd representing groups and individuals from Dunnamaggin, Kells and Kilmoganny.

Tributes were paid to all the voluntary organisations in the areas who work tirelessly to continue development works and keep the three villages attractive and vibrant.
