Moon’ shine in schools cracker




Mooncoin showed a fair amount of flair and great application when scoring a good win over the Rower-Inistioge NS in the Roinn B Allianz Toymaster schools hurling league.

The match was played in perfect conditions. Mooncoin got of to a great start with a flurry of points from Ciarán Quilty, Billy Delahunty and Martin O’Neill.

Midway through the half Monncoin breached a resolute Intistioge defence, which was brillinatly led by Harry Murphy, and scored a great goal through Lee Treacy. Intistioge battled back with a point from Oisin Morrisey.

Michael Corcoran then caught a great ball from the sky and rattled the Inistioge net. Billy Delahunty added another goal and points from Ciarán Quilty and Delahunty again left the half-time score: Mooncoin 3-5, Inistioge 0-1.

Inistioge got off to a flying start in the second half with a goal from Harry Murphy, who was now operating at full-forward. Further points from George Murphy and Morrissey ate into the Mooncoin lead.

With Sean Brennan outstanding at centre-back for Mooncoin, Inistioge found it hard to break down the opposing defence. Billy Delahunty converted a free near the end of the half to leave Mooncoin handsome winners.

In what was a very enjoyable match, John Grace kept a safe goal for Inistioge with Harry Murphy, Caoimhin Lynch and Oisin Morrissey driving forward at every opportunity.

Jack Cleary and Sean Brennan were excellent in central defence for Mooncoin, with Martin O’Neill and Killian Hogan busy at midfield. Billy Delahunty was in top form in the forwards along with Ciaran Quilty.
