Galmoy claimed their second win in the Northern junior ‘B’ hurling championship when they scored a good win (5-12 to 1-15) over Clara in Galmoy on Sunday. Four first half goals set the home side up for a comfortable win against young opposition.

The first goal came in the 11th minute when Niall O’Higgins flicked a Gavin Doherty delivery to the net. That made it 1-2 to 0-3 with Pat Bolger, Eoin Curtis and Nicky Creane raising Clara flags. Curtis (free) and David Mulrooney added further points for the visitors.

In the 19th minute it was Niall O’Higgins again who hit the net. He slammed home a Frank Phelan centre. A minute later Joe Ryan grabbed a ball from Phil Russell and sent the green flying.

Ryan added a brace of points while Pat Bolger and Eoin Curtis posted Clara replies before Galmoy struck it rich once more. This time it was a probing shot from the left wing from Frank Phelan which sneaked into the net.

Phelan and substitute Brendan Sherman added minors to leave Galmoy ahead by 4-7 to 0-8 at the break.

The home side continued in the same vein after the break. They registered their fifth goal in the 39th minute when Joe Ryan slammed to the net. Clara battled to the end and had some really hard grafters. Nicky Creane at centre-back was very good all through while Noel Kehoe did well at midfield. Michael Barcoe too cleared a lot of ball throughout. After the break ,Clara moved wing back John Brennan to corner-forward and then later to wing forward. The move paid dividends as he hit a good point after a long run by Nicky Creane.

Brennan also struck Clara’s only goal at the second attempt but it was too little too late. Brian Doherty, Jimmy Ryan and in particular, Pierce Harte did very well in defence for Galmoy.
